10th-Aug-2008 08:47 pm - Eames or Aeron?

I recently took this Eames or Aeron? Style Quiz, and here was my result:

You got 15 out of 20 correct.

You're a Style Icon, in the vein of Edie Sedgwick, Jackie Kennedy and Prince — not just well-appointed, but inventive, insidery and ahead of the curve. You own fresh-off-the-runway items from Vivienne Westwood and Salvatore Ferragamo, and accent your sparsely furnished industrial loft with pieces from Noguchi and Saarinen. You're probably an architect. Your phone has a cord, and your eyeglasses are custom made. If you were born American, you live abroad. If you were born abroad, you live in New York. People secretly try to memorize your apartment and your outfits.

You can test your design knowledge by taking the quiz at this link.

Vivienne Westwood? No. I like neither punk nor Victorian style clothing. I tend to like modern styles with interesting construction details. The designers I like make clothing that is artistic and architectural; and I sometimes like a bit of an edge, too.

Architect? No, but a few people have asked if I was an architect after seeing my handwriting...

Noguchi and Saarinen? No, but I almost bought a miniature version of a designer piece of furniture. They're usually in the $100 to $600 range, but I once found one I liked in the double digits. Why didn't I get it? (><) It's probably because I didn't have a dollhouse to put it in.

Speaking of which, when I was browsing through some online design shop, I discovered an awesome modern dollhouse called Villa Sibi that is made by the company Sirch:

Villa Sibi Dollhouse

It's made of birch wood, plexiglass, and metal. It has a little pool house and pool, a floating kitchen, 2 beds, and even a shower. I love it!

A while ago I got one of those Re-ment Puchi Housing sets, but I haven't assembled it yet. Most people set up a kitchen with one, don't they? I'd like to as well, but I don't have the furnishings. Besides, I'd rather do something different, at least at first. All the furniture I have are several chairs and a sofa, so that's something to start with. Either I can use those or make a little clothing boutique with the Re-ment closet and several Blythe display forms I have. Perhaps one big closet? I think my dolls have more pieces of clothing than I have! Who's in the same boat? ;)

Last week I received a lovely little birthday present from my family—a Pipos Rooney! :D Here are a few photos:

"I arrive! Aren't I fabulous?"
In the same pose as when it came out of the box. I just had to take a picture! ;)
You can see the little pink rabbit friend it came with in the box lid.

2nd-Jul-2008 10:48 pm - Froggy Loves Cream Puffs

After seeing Beard Papa's cream puffs mentioned a few times in customer restaurant reviews, one day in December I finally decided to give their choux pastry a try. After I brought some home, inspiration struck! Why not use them in a photo shoot with my little gourmand, Froggy? ;) Here's the result (layout may come out looking a little weird in older browsers):

Discovery!

In case anyone is wondering why there's a lot of confectioner's sugar on the cream puffs, I added some extra since most of it had already dissolved by the time I decided to take the photos. I overestimated the amount I needed, and because I didn't want to put the excess back from the sieve I was using, I sprinkled all of it on there. (^^;) The cream puffs were pretty good, and I'm satisfied with having tried them once. For a while now I've had this other food-related photo shoot idea starring Froggy and using mini cannoli from Rocco's Pasty Shop in Greenwich Village, New York City as props. Their cannoli are really good, not that disgustingly sweet supermarket variety that could turn someone off for life, but it's been a few years since I've eaten them. I should go back to Rocco's one of these days and get working on that photo shoot. Isn't that a great excuse? XP

On a final note, to those in the US reading this, happy Independence Day, and I hope you enjoy the long weekend! :D

28th-May-2008 12:33 am - Lost Kubricks & BambooZoo

Lost is one of the few TV shows that I make it a point to watch whenever there is a new episode, and when I saw the upcoming Kubrick versions of some of the Lost characters, I thought they were pretty cool, though a tad on the pricey side. After some checking around of price tags, I eventually gave in and pre-ordered a case of blind boxes. I guess that shows a certain level of my "geekiness" when it comes to the series, though I don't get into all the mythology and whatnot.

Moving along to other toy purchases, the other day I stopped by the new Kidrobot store in NYC. I went there sort of with the intent to pick up one of the Adult Swim toys or Yummy Breakfast keychains, but I forwent the latter and ended up getting a couple of the BambooZoo minis by Peskimo. The 2 I pulled were on the common side of the rarity spectrum, but I was happy with what I got. I think all the characters in the series are pretty cute in their own way. Here is what I got:

Bamboobi, one of the most common ones in the series, the odds being 3/25.

15th-May-2008 07:07 pm - 2 Ladies

Almost 2 weeks ago I received 2 new additions to my doll family. One of those was the Dynamite Girl that I mentioned earlier:

Rufus Blue Close-up

She arrived 2 Saturdays ago. Her name is Rufus Blue, and she is a Fashion Doll Quarterly limited doll. FDQ offered a special deal for subscribers, which was $5 off the retail price of $40 plus free shipping. I thought that was pretty good, and since I liked the doll, I put in my pre-order the same day. Later, I contemplated getting another one so I could have one to open and one to keep, but I didn't end up buying an extra. Now I'm not sure if I want to debox her. :(

25th-Mar-2008 10:15 pm - FofysFactory Blythe Carrying Case

This may not be news to some, but I thought my fellow Blythe owners who haven't seen it yet would be interested. :) I just saw the cutest Blythe carrying case in a post to the Craftzine blog. They're made by FofysFactory. It's such a great looking case, with little pockets to hold different accessories. I'd like to have one to carry around my Blythe. It would be good for Pullips, too, don't you think?

25th-Mar-2008 09:49 pm - At FAO Schwarz

A few weeks ago I stopped by FAO Schwarz on Fifth Avenue and spent some time looking around the doll section. I guess they no longer sell Pullips or Blythes there, or at least I didn't see them. I never did go when it was first announced that they were selling Pullips there. Since I didn't see my favorite dolls around, I just casually looked at the Madame Alexander, Tonner, and Fashion Royalty dolls. Of the dolls that I saw there, the one line that caught my interest the most was Dynamite Girls from Integrity Toys. I think I liked the red-haired Gavin the best but not enough to feel like making a purchase. The second wave of dolls is really cute, though, and just recently I went ahead and pre-ordered one of the upcoming ones! :) I'm really looking forward to seeing how she compares with the dolls I already own.

Back to FAO Schwarz, while I was browsing around the store, I came upon the Lego section which had statues of various characters made of Legos. There was SpongeBob, Darth Vader, R2D2, and probably the most popular of them all: Harry Potter! =) It seemed like every person whom I saw stop by there had to take photos, and I did, too:

Hagrid, Ron, Harry, and Hermione.

20th-Mar-2008 12:38 am - Froggy Loves Shake Shack + Food Talk

Remember over a year ago when I wrote about my craving for a hamburger from Shake Shack in New York City? :P Well, I've been there 3 times since then—twice for a burger and once just for frozen custard (had to try Sweet Corn when it was flavor of the day). The first of those visits was almost a year ago, soon after it had re-opened on the first day of spring. It was still chilly then—there were actually small patches of snow on the ground—but I braved the weather and the outdoor seating just so I could fulfill my hamburger craving. Many other people did the same thing! ;) You can read about all the deliciousness in an entry I posted on my other blog.

Anyway, when I went last March, I had my Froggy and camera with me. So while I waited for my order to be prepared, I did an impromptu photo shoot. ;)

"When this thing shakes, it means I get to eat!" =)

In my previous entry about the Shackburger I mentioned that Madison Square Park, where Shake Shack is located, was also the spot where a scene from the Japanese drama Hana Yori Dango 2 was filmed. Since I'm a fan of that series, I decided to take some photos around the park of the areas that were featured:
